Rio

Priced on request

Rio is the only fabric in the collection that takes latex, UV and solvent. If you run a latex machine, the other five are not available to you whatever else you like about them — which makes that one row the most important line on this page.

It is also the brightest. 41 % light shading means roughly 59 % of the light gets through, more than anything else we stock, and at 175 g/m² and 0.22 mm it is the lightest and thinnest too.

That combination has a consequence worth stating plainly: a bright, thin fabric scatters less. In a deep or edge-lit frame Rio will out-perform everything here. In a shallow direct-lit box — 25 mm or so, with LEDs on wide centres — it is the one most likely to show the array through a flat pale area. Match it to fixture depth rather than to the number alone.

Dimensionally it is the steadiest fabric we have: 0.9 % shrinkage in length and 0.7 % in width, both roughly half their tolerance and close enough to uniform that one scale factor covers both axes. Breaking strength is 670 N and 662 N — near-isotropic, so orientation is a free choice.

Ask us for test yardage and put it in your own frame.

Why it is built this way

No dye-sub line needed

UV, latex and eco-solvent all run on it. If you own a roll-to-roll UV machine and nothing else, this is your way into the collection.

Narrowest max width

310 cm rather than 320 — worth checking against your frame before you order.

Same job, different number

Closest on the numbers

Rio is 175 g/m². These are the nearest fabrics to it by basis weight out of the 6 in The Epic Performance Textile Collection that publish one.

Nearest by basis weight only. Weight is not quality — a lighter fabric is the right answer for a tension frame and the wrong one for a hanging banner. The figures beside it are there so the choice is made on the property the job actually cares about.

Nobody has reviewed this one yet.

Worth saying plainly rather than hiding the section. In the meantime every figure on this page is measured, published with its test method beside it, and is the thing we would rather be judged on.

Questions about this fabric

Will it run on my press?

The print routes this fabric takes are listed above. If the one you own is not there, Rio takes UV, latex and eco-solvent and is the fabric in this collection to look at instead.

How much does it move under heat?

Transfer temperature and the measured shrinkage are in the technical table on this page, with the test method beside each figure. That is the number that decides whether the finished panel fits the frame.

What does this cost?

The figure on this page is a list reference. Roll goods are quoted against width, volume and freight, so add it to a quote request and a person will come back with the real number.

Can I try it first?

Ask for test yardage. Your press, your ink, your RIP — it answers what a data sheet cannot.

A figure is missing. Why?

Because it has not been measured yet, and we would rather say so than publish something plausible. Rows with no number say where they stand.
