Lumex

Lumex is the lightest, thinnest fabric in the collection and the strongest. 195 g/m², 0.23 mm, and 921 N breaking strength along the roll against 984 N across it — more in the length direction than any other fabric we stock, including two that weigh 260 g/m².

If you have been buying soft signage on grams per square metre, that row is the argument against it. Weight is a proxy for strength and a poor one; the structure is what carries the load.

At 52 % light shading it sits mid-range on opacity, and the thinness makes it the easiest fabric here to seat into a tight silicone-edge groove. It takes dye-sublimation direct and transfer, and silk-screen.

The honest caveat is shrinkage. Lumex is held to a 3 % tolerance rather than the 2 % the rest of the range works to, and it measures 2.7 % length and 2.3 % width. Both are on spec. But on a 3 m panel that is about 81 mm off the calender, against 27 mm for our most stable fabric, and a looser band means more variation lot to lot. Build the compensation per lot rather than once, and it behaves.

Why it is built this way

Lightest in the line

195 g/m² at 0.23 mm — less mass on the frame and less freight per roll.

Wide transfer window

180–205 °C is the most forgiving press window of the six.

Same job, different number

Closest on the numbers

Lumex is 195 g/m². These are the nearest fabrics to it by basis weight out of the 6 in The Epic Performance Textile Collection that publish one.

Nearest by basis weight only. Weight is not quality — a lighter fabric is the right answer for a tension frame and the wrong one for a hanging banner. The figures beside it are there so the choice is made on the property the job actually cares about.

Nobody has reviewed this one yet.

Worth saying plainly rather than hiding the section. In the meantime every figure on this page is measured, published with its test method beside it, and is the thing we would rather be judged on.

Questions about this fabric

Will it run on my press?

The print routes this fabric takes are listed above. If the one you own is not there, Rio takes UV, latex and eco-solvent and is the fabric in this collection to look at instead.

How much does it move under heat?

Transfer temperature and the measured shrinkage are in the technical table on this page, with the test method beside each figure. That is the number that decides whether the finished panel fits the frame.

What does this cost?

The figure on this page is a list reference. Roll goods are quoted against width, volume and freight, so add it to a quote request and a person will come back with the real number.

Can I try it first?

Ask for test yardage. Your press, your ink, your RIP — it answers what a data sheet cannot.

A figure is missing. Why?

Because it has not been measured yet, and we would rather say so than publish something plausible. Rows with no number say where they stand.
